What makes you, you?

Creating a namesake brand wasn't what I immediately set out to do. Like many things in life, sometimes the obvious answer is right in front of you - mine being a name that once was something I saw as a marker of difference. Yuliya was not a common name growing up in Sydney, it was a link to my family's Ukrainian and Russian heritage. Different, foreign; I never saw my name on a keychain… Yet part of me also liked the fact that it was unique.

The inspiration behind By Yuliya stemmed from my love of fragrance. The perfume I chose to wear is an extension of who I am. As much as my name, my perfume makes me, me.

If I walk out the door without it, it's like I have  left something behind - I feel naked, not myself.

Your perfume is many things - it is your confidante getting ready in the morning; the veil of armour before an important meeting; the spritz on a first date; your wedding morning; a piece of you that lingers long after you have left the room. It is the nostalgia you remember your loved ones through and how they remember you. Fragrance is more than a scent, it is a feeling.

A self-proclaimed beauty enthusiast, I see every day how the products we use start conversation. A common ground for passers-by to become besties. 

For me, fragrance is a form of self-expression and one that I often use to build a connection .I quickly learnt there was a jump between high-end luxury perfume and inexpensive mists - a gap in the market for uniquely craft fragrances. Fragrances that didn’t compromise on quality and were as well developed as the renowned fragrance houses. 

My mission? To create a fragrance (or two), to make you feel more like you. In a society that increasingly celebrates individuality, I wanted to build a brand that would do the same, knowing this is what brings us fragrance lovers together. 

Whether the scent profile is young and flirty, spicy and daring, comforting and homely - I knew that I wanted to give women confidence in a bottle at an affordable price. 

All women have the right to feel confident, empowered and most importantly, themselves.

If a simple spritz can help evoke that feeling, By Yuliya is doing its job.
